ho lasciato stare le questioni legate al kernel e ho guardato al compilatore
provando a compilare ad esempio snort :

come si vede la verisione di gcc e' la 2.95.4,
e le libc6-dev sono installate

guardando un po' in giro mi sembra di avre letto che "fatal signal 11"
sta ad indicare un problema hardware, della cpu che scalda troppo

la macchina e' un dual Xeon 2.8 GHz che per ora onta il kernel bf24, quindi il 
tutto va ad un solo processore

spero che qualcuno abbia qualche idea, io sto diventando un tutt'uno con 
gooogle senza cavare un ragno dal buco
